Manaslu Circuit Trek is an off-the-beaten-path journey of peace through one of Nepal's most stunning and untouched regions. Encircling the eighth-tallest mountain in the world at 8,163 meters, Mt. Manaslu, this trek greets you with peaceful trails, untouched nature, and untainted Himalayan culture. Far from Annapurna and Everest treks, the Manaslu region treats you to a secret gem of authentic mountain culture where life takes precedence and every step becomes deeply connected to nature and heritage.

Starting in the lowland heat of Machha Khola, the walk increases altitude through rich forest and rural villages like Samagaun, before reaching Larkya La Pass. To reach Larkya La Pass is definitely one of the highlights — at 5,106 meters, the view will be breathtaking here. The hike also takes you close to the stunning Manaslu Base Camp (4,800 m.), where the sheer walls of the mountain appear almost touchable.

One of the most striking things about the Manaslu and Tsum Valley is how varied the landscapes are that you will see in the space of a few days. From fertile green forests teeming with rhododendrons to dry, rocky uplands bounded by snowcapped behemoths — every step feels like you're entering a new world. And the closer you get to Larkya Pass, the more surreal and dramatic the scenery gets.

En route, you'll visit medieval monasteries, cross thrilling suspension bridges, and be welcomed by the hospitable local Gurung and Tibetan people. Beshisahar, Samdo, and the remote villages near Larkya Pass will make you feel as if you've traveled centuries into the past.

Relative to Everest or Annapurna, Manaslu Circuit Trekking in Nepal is a quieter, more spiritual experience. Ideal for trekkers who need a genuine sense of connection to nature and culture, minus the hordes.

Key Landmarks During Manaslu Circuit Trekking in Nepal

The Manaslu Circuit Trek offers a wonderful blend of nature, culture, and high-altitude adventure. One of the first key stops is Machha Khola (890 m), a village by the riverside that launches the remote route of the Budhi Gandaki River. From there, we proceed to Jagat (1,340 m), an old-world village featuring stone roads and the first permit checkpoint, attesting to the area's antiquated charm.

As we continue with the trek, Philim and Deng (1,804 m) lead us to lush landscapes, field terraces of agriculture, and the peaks of indigenous Gurung and Tibetan-influenced culture. We then reach Namrung (2,630 m), a scenic village with great views of mountains like Ganesh Himal and Himalchuli. Here, the Tibetan Buddhist influence becomes more pronounced in the shape of mani walls and chortens.

Lho Village, 3,180 meters, is another gem, renowned for its breathtaking view of Mt. Manaslu and scenic Ri bung Gompa monastery (3400 m). A short distance ahead is Shyala Village (3,500 m), which offers open-mountain views before we reach Samagaun, a highly cultural village under the shadow of the giant Manaslu massif. Trekkers can do acclimatization treks to Pungyen Gompa, Manaslu Base Camp, or serene Birendra Lake from here.

From Samdo (3,860 m), the last major settlement before crossing the pass, we approach the Tibetan border and discover more cultural variety and stunning mountain vistas. The most thrilling location of the trek is Larkya La Pass (5,160m) with sweeping views of Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru, and Annapurna II.

After the pass, we descend to Bimtang (3,790 m), a picturesque valley surrounded by glaciers, and on to Tilje (2,300 m), where the landscape vegetation and trees blanket the ground. Each of these locations contributes a unique flavor to the trek, making the Manaslu Circuit trek one of the most diverse and rewarding treks in Nepal.

What to Expect from the Manaslu Circuit Trek?

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and one that will find you right in the middle of the Himalayas. Whether you have ever fantasized about such rugged mountain routes, quaint villages, and breathtaking vistas, this walk will provide all of these and plenty more!

You can expect to walk through serene forests, walk across thrilling suspension bridges, and ascend to the high mountain passes. The scenery of Mount Manaslu, the world's eighth-highest mountain, will take your breath away. You'll have friendly locals and get to enjoy the lovely culture of rural village communities along the way.

Since the Manaslu Circuit Trekking in Nepal passes through restricted areas, you’ll need your Manaslu Restricted Permit, Manaslu Conservation Area Permit, and Annapurna Conservation Area Permit. These permits open the door to a world still untouched by modern life.

Anticipate plain accommodation — plain tea houses with plain rooms and hot food such as dal bhat (lentils and rice). Internet and power are present, but slow or intermittent, particularly at a higher elevation. This hike is more about not being plugged into the world but unplugged from the din and plugged into nature and oneself.

You will also receive an excellent challenge. The trek is suitable for beginners with careful organization, yet trails may be steep, and the weather unpredictable. Cautious travel insurance to cover high-altitude trekking is necessary.

In brief, the Manaslu Circuit Trek is tough, scenic, and very rewarding — a real adventure of a lifetime!

Permits Needed for the Manaslu Circuit Trek

The Manaslu Circuit Trek requires certain important permits for you to travel smoothly within legal boundaries while maintaining an enjoyable experience. The required documents seem a lot at first, but they serve only to protect you and your trip from any organizational issues.

Your trip to the Manaslu Restricted Area requires obtaining the initial Manaslu Restricted Permit. Natural preservation requirements demand a restricted permit to protect the Manaslu region. Controlling the number of visitors and maintaining the natural heritage along with cultural landmarks together help achieve the region's preservation goals.

You will also require the Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP). The permit assists with conservation to preserve the beautiful environment, wildlife, and residents along the trek.

Since the trail also crosses into the Annapurna region, you’ll need the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) too. It works the same way, helping to conserve the beauty and culture of the Annapurna area.

The other important one is the Chumnubri Rural Municipality Fee. It helps the local government in maintaining trails and in providing services to villagers and trekkers.
If you wish to take a diversion into the peaceful and holy Tsum Valley, you'll need a separate Tsum Valley Permit.

And if you proceed trekking into the Annapurna Circuit or Annapurna Base Camp, you'll also need a TIMS card to further control trekking.

These permits are not just words — they guard these lovely spots and make your trekking safe and worthwhile!

Essential Information

Best Season for Manaslu Circuit Trekking in Nepal

Manaslu Circuit Trekking in Nepal is a photographic trek that goes around Mt. Manaslu (8,163m) amidst a blend of nature's beauty and cultural heritage. Time must be allocated for a memorable Manaslu Circuit Trekking experience.

The period from September to November is the most optimal time to undertake Manaslu Circuit Trekking in Nepal. Skies are transparent blue, the sight of Mt. Manaslu and Larkya Pass remains extraordinary, and trekking trails between Arughat to Samagaun are in full bloom. Ideal conditions with minimal precipitation and low temperature are what most trekkers who make a reservation for the Manaslu Circuit Trek in Autumn 2025 are looking forward to.

Spring (March to May) is also a great time for the Manaslu and Tsum Valley Trek. The forests are abuzz with lovely rhododendrons, and the weather is consistent. It's also perfect for a Manaslu Circuit Family Trek if you want to enjoy nature as a family.

Winter (December to February) is about heavy snowfall, especially at Larkya Pass, thus making the crossing difficult. Treks near Manaslu Base Camp Trek become isolated and too cold, although those who enjoy solitude and adventure might still get to have their fun.

The monsoon (June to August) season is out due to heavy rain, landslides, and slippery roads from Beshisahar up to higher altitudes. Visibility for Mt. Manaslu becomes poor, and trekking becomes hazardous.

If you want the affordable Manaslu Circuit trekking package in 2025, visit during autumn or spring for the most convenient and safest travel experience.
Book your Manaslu and Tsum Valley trek now and feel Nepal's best-kept secret in its purest form!

Difficulty and Altitude Sickness in Manaslu Trekking in Nepal

Manaslu Circuit Trekking is a challenging and remote trekking circuit to Mt. Manaslu, but it does need proper preparation as it is challenging and susceptible to altitude sickness. Manaslu Circuit Trekking in Nepal has long days of walking, steep climbs, and extremely high altitudes, and thus is a more challenging hike than other treks in Nepal.

The hike starts from Maccha Khola at a lower elevation and gradually ascends to Samagaun and the breathtakingly beautiful Manaslu Base Camp Trek area. The real challenge, however, is faced while trekking on the Larkya Pass Trek at an elevation of 5,106 meters, where thin air and severe weather conditions push the limit of every trekker.

Altitude sickness is a natural risk factor for the Manaslu and Tsum Valley Trek, especially above 3,000 meters. The typical symptoms are headache, dizziness, nausea, and weakness. There should be adequate acclimatization days at such places like Samagaun to acclimatize to the altitude step by step. For an affordable Manaslu Circuit trek package in 2025, make sure that it incorporates adequate acclimatization days and experienced guides who can manage high-altitude emergencies.

Though the trek is physically demanding, even inexperienced visitors can take up the Manaslu Circuit Trekking 14 Days tour through training and acclimatization at a relatively less hectic pace. The back-of-the-roads trails and lesser traffic, as compared to Annapurna or Everest routes, make the trek exploratory but reduce the number of rescue operations, so planning becomes careful.

Plan, listen to your body, and relish the unadulterated, pristine flavor of Manaslu Circuit Trekking in Nepal.

Maximum and Minimum Walk per day during Manaslu Base Camp Trek

On the trek, the longest walking distance on a day is on Day 4 when we trek from Jagat to Dyang, covering a distance of 20 kilometers. One of the longest days in terms of distance and duration, this gives us a full day of walking in scenic countryside. The shortest walking distance is on Day 9 when we trek from Samagaun to Samdo. This brief stretch of 5 kilometers gives way to an easy, casual day of acclimatization as we increase in altitude.

The longest walking hours in a day are on Day 11, as we cross the challenging Larkya La Pass at 5,106 meters and descend to Bhimthang. It is approximately 8 to 9 hours of non-stop trekking and is the most challenging yet rewarding day of the trip. Conversely, Day 9 includes the shortest walking hours with a mere 4 to 5 hours of straightforward walking through the scenic vistas of the Manaslu area.

We will be doing an average of 6 to 7 hours of walking per day on the trek. There are a few longer and more difficult days, and a few shorter days to give our bodies plenty of time to rest and acclimatize at the higher elevations. The combination of difficult and easier days balances out the walk and makes it reasonable, so the adventure is exciting but fun.

Accommodation in Manaslu Circuit Trekking in Nepal

Manaslu Circuit Trekking in Nepal provides the perfect mix of adventure and real local hospitality. On this Trek, trekkers lodge in cozy teahouses operated by the local people themselves. In the past, the teahouses on the Manaslu Trek were small wooden huts with basic rooms separated by thin walls. Now, with the increasing popularity of Manaslu Base Camp Trek and Larkya Pass Trek, these teahouses have become much more luxurious lodges with improved facilities.

Each teahouse features a central heating system in a dining room to offer a warm and cozy atmosphere. Trekkers enjoy the privilege of having delicious food from a menu, often while relaxing around the fire after a day's walk. If you are seeking an affordable Manaslu Circuit trek package in 2025, you can be certain that accommodation is simple but sufficient along the trail.

Rooms are small but clean, with a bed, mattress, pillow, and blanket. Rooms are usually shared by two or three people, however, private rooms with attached bathrooms can be found at lower altitudes at an extra cost and request. Most bathrooms are shared, with western-style toilets becoming more popular in newly built teahouses.

Hot showers are available everywhere at an extra cost of $2–$3, except Dharmashala. In the lower areas like Arughat and Beshisahar, tea houses are more luxurious, but higher up towards Samagaun and Larkya Pass, lodges are basic.

Simple in structure, though, teahouses on the Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal are warm and inviting for all kinds of travelers.

Foods and Drinks in Manaslu Circuit Trekking in Nepal

During Manaslu Circuit Trekking in Nepal, you will need healthy and nutritious food to trek for 5-6 hours a day. There is a variety of food available at the teahouses along the routes, but they become simpler in nature as you ascend higher towards places like Samagaun and Larkya Pass.

Manaslu Trek breakfast is usually of Tibetan bread, porridge, paratha, pancakes, eggs, and cereals. Breakfast hot, observed with the Manaslu sunrise view, would be a lifelong experience. The lunch and dinner options are monopolized by Dal Bhat, noodles, fried rice, dumplings of momo, thukpa, and potato plates. Despite Dal Bhat having a high protein and carb composition, it continues to be trekkers' first choice even on the Manaslu Base Camp Trek.

Hot drinks such as tea, coffee, ginger tea, and mint tea are readily available and provide warmth from the mountain chill. Trekkers need to stay hydrated throughout the Manaslu Circuit Trek, so a minimum of 4 liters of filtered water needs to be consumed every day. You can use a filter bottle or request boiled water at the teahouses.

While there are cold drinks and local alcohol available, their moderate consumption is recommended to prevent dehydration and altitude sickness.

A daily spend of $30 will be enough for three meals and basic accommodation for your Manaslu Circuit Trekking in Nepal. For the best trekking experience, pack snacks like energy bars and chocolates and treat yourself to local desserts like apple pie and rice pudding after meals.

Can a Beginner Complete the Manaslu Circuit Trek?

But the Manaslu Circuit Trekking in Nepal is a bit tough because you walk 5 to 6 hours almost every day, sometimes on steep and rocky paths. Thus, your body and brain need to be trained in advance for the trekking.

Having done some basic exercises like walking, jogging, and hiking a few weeks before the trip is actually going to do a lot of good. While trekking to Manaslu and Tsum Valley, you will slowly get accustomed to altitude. It is the reason why it is very necessary that you walk slowly, rest whenever required, and drink lots of water.

The tea houses on the Manaslu Base Camp Trek are hospitable and welcoming. You shall be treated with good food, hot beverages, and warm hearts to greet you. Although the day of the Larkya Pass Trekking is tough (it is the highest section of the trek), with proper leadership and the right attitude, newcomers can easily face it.

Preparation and Physical Fitness for Manaslu Circuit Trek

The correct preparation and physical condition are needed for a safe and enjoyable Manaslu Circuit Trek. You do not need to be a super athlete, but being fit will enable you to hike 5-7 hours daily on the Manaslu Circuit.

To get ready for the Manaslu and Tsum Trek, start with basic exercises at least 6–8 weeks before your trek. You may go for morning walks, short hikes, or running. Climbing stairs, squats, and carrying a backpack on short hikes will make your legs strong and help you on steep trails.

The Manaslu Base Camp Trek is at high altitudes, and your body must adapt gradually. Your body will be more tolerant of thin air with the practice of breathing exercises and yoga. A positive mindset is also required as trekking is not just a matter of the body — it's also a matter of the heart and determination.

In the Larkya Pass Trekking part, you pass the highest Larkya La Pass point at an altitude of 5,160m. This is quite challenging, but good preparation, enough rest, and drinking plenty of water should do for this section!

Pack always appropriately - right trekking shoes, warm clothing, a comfortable backpack, and a refillable water bottle are a must. A guide and porter will also ease your travel a lot!

By being well-prepared and conditioned, you will be capable of enjoying the mystical landscape and friendly culture to the fullest during your Manaslu Circuit Trekking in Nepal adventure!

Gadget Charging, Internet, and Communication on the Manaslu Circuit Trek

Even though the Manaslu Circuit Trek takes you deep into the remote Himalayas, you can still stay connected with your family and friends. During your Manaslu Circuit Trekking in Nepal adventure, almost all tea houses have Wi-Fi facilities. Some guesthouses even provide free Wi-Fi, but in most instances, you will need to pay $1 to $3 for internet access.

Just keep that in mind, the internet is slow. It will do for messaging or simple calls, but you will be unable to stream videos or send large files. Still, it's nice to be able to send a message or photo along to your friends and family while you are out on the Manaslu and Tsum Trek.

As for charging your gadgets, lower areas like Soti Khola, Dharapani, and Bhimthang often have electricity plugs inside the rooms. Higher up, you’ll usually need to charge your phone or camera in the dining hall or at the reception. Charging isn't free — it costs a few dollars per device, so it’s smart to carry a power bank.

Whether you're on the Manaslu Base Camp Trek or the Larkya Pass Trekking route, which is slightly more difficult, having the basic internet and charging facilities available makes life just that much easier. It keeps you in touch, enables you to take snaps, and makes you feel slightly nearer home, even when you're among mountains and tranquil trails.

So, if the connection is a little slow, the journey's beauty makes up for it a thousandfold!

What kind of Transportation available in Manaslu Circuit Trekking?

We will use vehicles of tourist quality on the walk, which are comfortable and secure, depending on group numbers. We start the tour by taking a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola on Day 2, when we use a private jeep, van, or bus for an extremely smooth and comfortable ride. We choose the vehicle type based on the number of attendees, but always never compromise the space, comfort, and safety of our attendees and their belongings.

When we finish the trek, we travel once more by transport on Day 12 when we drive from Tilje village to Besisahar. This short trip will also be organized in comfortable transport that is capable of handling rough mountain roads, with a soft landing after finishing the trail in town.

We drive back to Pokhara or Kathmandu by tourist bus or by private car on day 13, as a group option. All our cars are in excellent condition, so you can travel safely and comfortably throughout the trip.

For a local, more budget-friendly experience, we also have the option to take public buses as a means of travel. This is totally at your option and is an excellent way of being able to explore Nepal as the locals do.

Do I need to have insurance to travel Manaslu Circuit Trekking in Nepal?

When planning to venture out for the Manaslu Circuit Trek, there is one thing that you should not forget, which is good travel insurance. Manaslu Circuit Trekking in Nepal entails trekking on isolated mountain trails where there are no clinics or hospitals of any kind. If something goes wrong — accidents, altitude sickness, or even the weather changes for the worse — you could be airlifted by helicopter in a state of emergency. So, your insurance policy must include high-altitude trekking, medical, and helicopter evacuation.

Besides medical emergencies, it’s wise to have insurance that also covers trip cancellations, delays, and loss or theft of baggage. Sometimes, unpredictable weather or strikes can affect travel plans, and it's comforting to know you’re financially protected.

Even though your Manaslu Restricted Permit, Conservation Area Permits, and other trekking papers make your trip legal, your insurance covers you. Being completely covered makes your trek safer and less stressful, especially if you plan to add side trips to other mystical destinations like Tsum Valley or go on to the Annapurna Conservation Area.

Your insurance should have all the necessities for this adventure. Your insurance should have high-altitude trekking up to 6,000 meters, emergency helicopter evacuation if you fall seriously ill or meet with an accident, and complete medical treatment and hospitalization. Your insurance should also cover trip cancellations or interruptions on account of unavoidable circumstances, and security for any lost or stolen luggage during transit. Having good insurance will be a source of peace during the journey.
