The desert has rough and windswept conditions, where you can see interesting rock shapes and not much natural life. While walking, we glimpse beautiful and old caves, traditional stone houses, and spectacular scenes of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Desert conditions continue, characterized by strong winds and a few plants. The area is dry and exposed to strong winds, as is usual in Upper Mustang’s rain-shadow region. We find ourselves in Tibetan villages filled with prayer flags, chortens, and monasteries as we go.

The hike to the cave passes through the dry Mustang region, dotted with steep cliffs, deep canyons, and distant snow-topped mountains. The area is usually rocky and quite dry since it’s a desert.

Chhosar Cave is a spiritual place dug into rock, and it has been a refuge for meditation and isolated living for monks throughout history. Going to this cave teaches people about the important role of Tibetan Buddhism in the area’s culture and faith. On this tour, you enjoy exploring and getting to know the cultural traditions of Buddhists in the region.

While proceeding, we come across old caves, old stone villages, and amazing cliffs that provide clear views of both the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. There are many prayer flags and chortens all over the dry, windy landscape, showing the powerful influence of Tibetan Buddhism in the area.

You will see old caves in the cliffs and small traditional towns with Buddhist prayer flags and mani walls, each showing the strong Tibetan Buddhist influence in the area.

The land is still dry and windy, and there are beautiful views of the tall Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains ahead.

In Ghiling, you can rest in a peaceful village surrounded by old caves and stone residences and live in the Mustang ways for a night.

While trekking, you will get amazing views of the Kali Gandaki Gorge and looming Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Mountain ranges. You go from the dry high desert in Upper Mustang to countryside with greener valleys.

More farmland and vegetation make the environment less severe. Mani walls, chortens, and prayer flags show that Tibetan Buddhist traditions continue to shape the surroundings along the path.

Near the river, Chhuksang presents a peaceful spot for a stop because of its friendly people and beautiful stone homes.

Most of the area is not very steep and includes portions where rivers meet and wide plains. While you go lower, the area around you gets a bit greener, and there are more people. Tibetan Buddhist culture is still visible in prayer flags, chortens, and village monasteries.

Jomsom is an active town with many services and is located next to high mountains and deep valleys. There is a good balance between Mustang tradition and modern comfort, which makes it a nice spot to stay the night before flying back to Pokhara.
