This part of the Mera Peak Mountaineering journey is most demanding, as cold temperatures, thin air and long hours test both strength and focus of trekkers.

Mera Peak has three summits, Mera North, Mera South and Mera Central. Our ascent is to Mera Central, which is the most commonly climbed and officially recognized summit. As dawn breaks, finally we will reach to the Mera Peak Summit (6,476 m), the highest trekking peak in the world. From here we will get a panoramic view of snow-covered giants like Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Lhotse and Kanchenjunga, glowing into a warm golden light as the sun rises, which creates a moment that makes every step worth it. After spending some time at the Mera Peak, our long descent begins. First, we will go back to Mera Peak High Camp to rest and afterwards proceed to Khare. Though it's exhausting, the return to Khare is satisfying as oxygen level gradually increases. By evening, we will reach Khare and spend the night comfortably in a teahouse, while marking the successful completion of the Mera Peak Climbing Nepal adventure.

Contingency Day is an important safety buffer day that is built into the Mera Peak Climbing Package, which is especially required for a demanding summit like Mera Peak (6,476 m), one of the highest trekking peaks in the world. This day offers flexibility to our journey in case of bad weather, strong winds or changing snow conditions that may affect the Mera Peak Summit Day. In the high Himalayas, weather is unpredictable and can shift quickly. So, having an extra day increases the chances of safe and a successful Mera Peak Expedition.

If the summit has already been achieved, this day can be used for rest and recovery after the hardest section of the Mera Peak Trek. For safety, recovery, or extra rest days, the contingency day is really crucial during our Mera Peak mountaineering, as it helps to ensure a responsible and relaxed progression through the Nepal's demanding landscapes.

Trek from Khare to Kothe marks as the beginning of our return journey after successfully completing the Mera Peak Summit. The total trekking distance for this day is about 14-16 kms and takes 8-9 hours. Upon leaving Khare behind, the trail follows the familiar Mera Peak Climbing route, which descends steadily through the glacial moraines and open valleys. As altitude drops significantly, breathing becomes really easier and energy slowly returns after the demanding days we had on higher altitudes during Mera Peak mountaineering. This section of the Mera Peak Expedition feels rewarding, as the harsh high attitude terrain gradually gives its way to the softer landscapes.

Continuing towards Kothe, the sceneries change beautifully with the trail, re entering the green Hinku Valley filled with rivers, lush rhododendron forests and the mountain silence. At Thangnak we will take a break for tea and lunch. Afterward, we will follow Hinku Khola and trekking for some time, we will finally reach Kothe. Arriving, Kothe (3,580 meters) really feels comfortable and welcoming, offering a good night’s rest after the intense days spent at Mera peak High Camp and in regions above 5,000 meters.

After having breakfast, we will start continue our 18-day Mera Peak Climbing Package journey towards Thuli Kharka. Starting from Kothe, the trail head towards lush rhododendron and pine forests, by crossing few streams and rivers along the way. The hike will take us about 7-8 hours and cover around 8-9 kms before we finally reach to Thuli Kharka (4,200 m). This part of the Mera Peak Trek is really impressive, as we trekkers can witness the shifting landscapes from high altitude rocky terrain to the lush green valleys with the panoramic views of Mera Peak and surrounding Himalayan giants.

As we make our way along the trail, we can witness the notable landmarks, such as Taktho. Taktho has some small tea houses, which makes it perfect for a lunch and a short break. From here, we will follow the Upper Trail towards Thuli Kharka. Along the trail, trekkers can enjoy the scenic sights of Hinku River, forested ridges, and occasional wildlife if we get lucky. The final climb to Thuli Kharka rewards us with a wide alpine meadow and the expansive views of the Nepal Trekking Peaks, which includes impressive south face of Mera Peak, Kongde Ri, Numbur Himal, and Lumding Himal. Thuli Kharka really marks as the perfect spot to relax and reflect on the incredible Mera Peak Mountaineering adventure before we continue towards Lukla tomorrow.

Today’s trek covers approximately 10-12 kms and takes about 7-8 hours. We will start with a steep climb from Thuli Kharka towards Zatrwa La Pass (4,600 m). From here, the trail descends towards lush rhododendron and pine forests, passing through Chutanga and goes down through Sherpa villages and terraced farmland, finally reaching the bustling town of Lukla.

The main highlight of the day is the Zatrwa La Pass, which offers a panoramic view of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Nuptse. This ecological shift from alpine meadows to forested hillsides is striking, while adding to the sense of accomplishment after the Mera Peak Expedition Nepal.
